    Tall Ship

One shot from the Tall Ships Great Lakes tour (this taken in Chicago) a couple of weeks ago. I think that the water and sky are too light, but can't figure out how to get them darkened without also affecting the ship (which I think is about right). I tried using layers, but I had an impossible time of selelcting only the ship.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Phil G.

The entire photo seems to have a blue cast from light scattering off water and water vapor the sk, perhaps you can filter the blue. It may be as simple as lowering the value of the blue channel. That and maybe a bump to the red. This may be one of the situations where a UV or sky filter is useful for more than lens protection.. A polarizer would probably have helped with the light scatter in as well.
    It's not about the camera....

I placed it in Photoshop and just selected Auto Color and it made a BIG difference, Jeff

The composition is nicely done. the size ratio between the ship and the light house and their placement are great. I agree that the scene is way too light. Other than choosing a different time of day (which is kinda too late) I would suggest to reduce the exposure if you shot these in RAW format. then u can lighten up the boat a bit in PP
