    The Swooners

    Hello All!

Here is another Billy project I am working on, different band roster. They're called the Swooners. Anyway this is in exactly the same space as the Billy Band Billy Band ~ shot was taken with but instead of the soft box and paper I am just using a bounce flash for lighting at ISO 3200, custom white balance, F4.5, 1/60 or slower. I remember GB saying he wanted more of a bar atmosphere, so here it is for your consumption. . .

The last is the band favorite so far and my attempt to mask the bar scene.

The last is my fave too, Cindy! I love the background effect...and it's really cool for a band. Also, they all seem a bit clearer in that last one as well.

Yeah you're right, that's your typical smoky bar, crummy lighting, high ISO, do it on set break kind of image noise. I cut it out and cleaned it up as best I could so there is a difference in clarity, the one just before it is what I started with. Thanks for the critique Emily. Give the girls a hug from us.

Well, you did a good job cleaning it up then... And I'll definitely pass on the hug! We need to do a playdate after this one shows up.

    CL -

Looks like you did the best as possible under the circumstances. But is this a bar? Ok, I guess it is, but that isn't obvious (where's the kegs and bar stools and upsidedown whiskey bottles that is?) They're a tad soft on the second shot. The bottom shot is really neat - my favorite also. It also shows all of them and doesn't seem as tight as the others. I also find the 'mountain tops' zip zag of the top horizontal line (their head line) very creative. The last one is so good I would play with different backgrounds, like an all black one, on it and see what else you get ... -GB

The last one by a mile for me and the guy on the left plays a huge part in making this a lot more than just another group photograph. There is an overhead light somewhere overhead that seems to be dyeing their hair a little purple and this could do with a bit of rinsing out.
Other than that a very professional looking shot.

    Re: The Swooners

Thanks for the thoughts GB & Tom ~

GB - Yes this is a bar, that's why you can't see it, everyone else is sitting at it. This is the only space left for the band to stand, the bar seating that's right in front of the door. I will take your advice about the background swapping and see what else I can wring out of it. Thanks!

Tom - This place is covered with little odd lights, the over head you noted is from a neon "Rock N Roll" Bar sign immediately above them. Thanks for pointing it out, I will tidy that up before I send the final file on to the band.

    Thanks again for the input!!!

OMG! How did there photo get on the wall ...before it was even taken! Spooooky!

Seriously, the bottom one is my favorite shot as well. Are they putting it on the album cover?

Did you try any with them sitting at the bar?

    Re: The Swooners

Ha! You noticed! That was the band's idea actually, the third image shows that picture should really be a B/W glossy of Dan Akroyd as Elwood Blues but it was a little too dominant and recognizable of a presence so I did the vertical shot to have something to cover Dan's face with. Thanks for commenting!
