Hello folks, this is my first time posting here (even though I've lurked for over a month) so go easy on me, hehe. Below is one of the first pictures I took with my new camera, and I desaturated it to kind of give it a more emphatic effect. The original is below. These are flowers in my back yard (dying as you can see), anyhow I dont have thin skin so please feel free to tell me what you all think

i like the first one the best because the green is distracting in the second one, i think it looks a little wierd with the out of focus flower blob in the background but besides that, great job,

i like how you cropped the flower in the foreground

I like it as is, but think that I like the chain link SO much that I would crop off the right side *with no* chainlink in it! ( that's how much i like it!)

Hi Reminisce! I also much prefer the first shot with the desaturated green. I would crop it slightly on the righ, up to where the fence turns (or stops?)

Actually, I like the fence. Looks like the flowers are in prison and are just wilting away. I also like the concept of having the fresh flower sharp, and the wilted flower blurry... they are kind of fading away!

Thank you very much for the comments and critique. Steph_B: thats exactly the effect I was going for. And yes I thought about cropping the right a bit as well but I wanted to see what others think, looks like I may end up doing that anyway. Thanks folks

The desaturation of the background does emphasize the color but leaves the flowers less connected to the background - kinda like they were applied on top of a pick of the background rather than being within the same scene. I did a quick and dirty try at just partially desaturating the greens and yellows in your shot and think it ends up with a little less of that seperation while leaving some complementary green to balance that main color. It's kinda rough since I didn't take much time with it.
