    ALbuquerque at Night

Here is a pic from my hometown Albuquerque, New mexico. It was taken in downtown ABQ at around 10pm with my trust Digital rebel. It is my second time shooting at night, so this picture prolly isn't all that great. I tried my best to get the best picture I could and this was the result: Oh, and here are the settings I used.

    Tv( Shutter Speed )
    1/15
    Av( Aperture Value )
    6.3
    Metering Mode
    Evaluative
    Exposure Compensation
    0
    ISO Speed
    800
    Lens
    18.0 - 55.0 mm
    Focal Length
    43.0 mm

I haven't posted here before, mainly because in spite of months lurking here my IT expertise is so poor that I haven't been able to work out how to post my own photos on this site. If my feedback on your photo is any use though, whilst I appreciate your attempt to use the archway as a framing device, it seems that you haven't quite made it work. There is some dead space at the bottom and left hand side of the photo, and because of this the arch is incomplete, which I find distracting. Also, I can't find any point of interest or focus for my eye to rest on in order to lead me into your picture. The overall yellow cast might be a problem as well.

Hope that doesn't sound too negative. If anyone can take pity and give me the stupid person's guide to posting some of my own shots on here I would be incredibly grateful, as I would love to get some feedback on some of my own shots.

    Regards.

This is an interesting shot. I have to agree with Matt that the framing arch distracts from the real subject of the photo. Try selecting the forground stonework and reduce the lightness and saturation. I think that lets the the further arches and the plaza in between to come forward as the subject. Looking out from a darker area into a lighter area is always easier it seems than the oposite.
