    Storm's a comin'

So bad weather is exciting, is it not?

I got a few pics of the sky as the storm was rolling in. (keep in mind that I don't have my tripod up here at school with me, so they aren't as crisp as they might could have been)

I tried to frame it a few different ways, anything I could improve?

    Re: Storm's a comin'

Amithi - I dont see any immediate issues. The bottom one (color shot) I would never have guessed it was a storm unless you said it, just seems like a bit of a cloudy day to go with the deep blue sky. The top two shots create more of a storm like feel. I would perhaps increase the contrast on both of them a little and see if it magnifies the effect. They are all pretty good but I feel that shots like this can only go so far without a strong subject - perhaps some ligthning would be it (but those are hard to get )

GB summed everything up well IMO. The last shot doesn't appear to be a storm shot, but I like it nonetheless...the blue sky adds to it quite a bit for me. Nice shots and good eye,

Thanks guys, a little too cliche now that I think about it. Course it's not cliche for me, bc I've never photographed storm clouds, or any kind of clouds, or much of anything at all for that matter For a newbie, its a nifty shot, ha! I did get out on my balcony to try to catch some lightning, but it popped really loud and scared me, so I went back inside Thanks for the opinions!

You have captured a good sky and I like the framing of the second shot with the tall vertical in the right fg.

I think a curves adjustment could yeild a more dramatic sky. How did you do the BW conversion? Another type may also have heightend the stormy feel.

Another thing you can try is a slower shutter speed to get some feel of the trees being blown around.

    Nice work.

Wow, GB1, I like that alot... how on earth do you do that?

Chunk, I don't know what BW conversion means That must be photo-editing software terminology... I just took it with my little camera set on B&W... I don't know if this is any good, but daddy just got a canon yesterday and it came with Arcsoft photo somethin. I'm gonna play with it some. Does it have that curves adjustment thing you're talkin about?

Don't think that I don't like your shots as they are because I do.
I don't know what arcsoft has for tools. You have a lot more control of the outcome if you take your shot in color and then convert to BW in editing software. I can show some examples of what curves adjustments and different BW conversion methods with your shots if you want.

Oh no, I appreciate your help! I just don't know how to do those things, that's all I'd love to see some examples of what you're talking about if you want to mess with the shots.

Meg - I use Corel Photopaint for most of my photo editing and touch-up (I also have Photoshop but have yet had time to sit down and play with it...). Corel has a bunch of filters and effects, one being "Weather" which allows you to add rain, fog and other weather effects. I think it works pretty good, but I still prefer the real thing.
