Stone Woman With Bowl at Highgate

    Highgate Cemetery, London.
Would be creepier at night but you'd have to break in.
They actually charge photogs. 2 quid to get into this place!
One of those overgrown cemeteries where famous people from the past are buried. Karl Marx for instance.

Lovely shot. I find the fact that the sharpest and brightest area on my monitor is the top edge of the clam like bowl and constantly keeps drawing my eye towards that region. Any way to tone it down or pull out more detail on the rest of the statue so the eye is drawn to the overall subject matter?. I do enjoy the muted colors!

    Cheers.

Excellent choice of perspective and composition. Well done. I also enjoy the subtle soft effects and desaturated colors. Not much to improve on here except for the "mood" of the scene (for which I don't know a way to improve anyway)...perhaps a darker background would have helped.

I like the colours, the subject, the composition.
It's really captured the atmosphere of the cemetery.

To my taste, the softening is way overdone.
But don't let that influence you, some people will like it as much as I dislike it

    Hello Jk
But what interesting places these graveyards are.
Your photograph is unusual and I like the green. I do feel the soft blurring is a little bit too blurry for me and perhaps a little uneven. I did something similar with a shot from my local cemetry. If you would like to see it please let me know and I will post it to this thread, as I do not wish to hijack your thread in any way.

Please do. I love cemetery shots and would love to see yours.

I think the reason I softened this up is that I originally had a picture in my mind of the creepy, ethereal, overgrown cemetery at night in the fog. Alas, these things rarely come together and you're not allowed in at night anyhow. So i gave it what I feel is the look I was hoping for.

Interestingly there are 2 sections to this cemetery. The other half, which unfortunately is not open to the public, is supposedly the better half as it is even more overgrown and "creepy".
i like Trevor's idea of darkening the BG. Just the corners I think. would give it a more closed-in feeling.
Thanks for all your comments and suggestions on improvements.

    Hello JK
This is the one that sprang to mind when I saw your one. Hope you like it.

Very nice shot Overbeyond. I like the way the leaves frame the figurines face, and your painting back of the colour is not overdone. Looks nice and sharp too.

I like this image Jon, but I would like it more if there was more of a distinction between the subject and the bg. Maybe as Trevor said darkening it some? Not sure what would do it best, but that is my only area for improvement.

Great pictures overbeyond. I love the color of the leaves and the greyness of everything else on the second on. As Gary pointed out, a little more defination between subject/background would be good, or even a slight blur on the background.

    Great shot though,

    Jared
