    Re: Still life

I like the way the rose and vase have the same colouring, nice.

My only critique is the shadow behind the vase on the right of the photo and that the base of the vase tend to blend with the background and that the rose seems to have been added to the photo in post processing as part of the vase is missing just under the leaves and the leaves have a dark rim which does not seem to blend.

Is it a composition of 2 photos?

naw, one photo. It was the only spot on the vase without color, or a light color. Thanks for the reply.

    Re: Still life

Then may I suggest you rotate the vase so that you get the colour to complete picture.

Hope your going to re-take the photo and represent the result.

    Re: Still life

This is much improved from the last one that I posted on! I agree with Roger that rotating the vase would be an improvement.
I notice some thick shadow lines around the leaves that I don't care for. I have experienced this in some of my pics and have had some success at improving my images by micro cloning the bg into the thick shadow to reduce the outline size. nice shot.
    hope this helps

    Re: Still life

Of course it helps, and I appreciate the comments. How all this came about was trying in home studio work. I found that it isn't something I care for much, except when doing stock, and stock is just to help get better equiptment. I tried to do something decorative, but it seems so unnatural, and faked to me. Guess we all have to go through these periods of discovery, to find our place, and sometimes passion. Thanks again.

    Re: Still life

It was the thick shadow around the leaves and the blank area in the vase that lead me to believe it was a composition of 2 photos.

I find that all photography teaches me new techniques and most can be used in many different environments and the critique on this site helps a great deal.

    Re: Still life

I understand and agree that it helps. Sometimes I think I like something, and then realize I don't. That is what happened here. It just isn't for me, although, it taught me alot that can be used in other situations. There is something about getting out and finding a scene, or subject that makes it fun to me. Noone or nothing discourages me, I just don't care for studio work, bleah...lol
