    Still Air

A nice quiet morning at a pond behind a newly made dam that is now blocking a drainage ditch on a marsh outside of town. The Dept. of Natural resourses is reclaiming some agricultural land.

    Hi Chunk,
I love this shot. The tree branches and the reflection are great. The shot does deliver a quiet feeling as there is no ripples on thhe water surface.

The composition of this is just perfect Chunk, its like a Rorschach ink blot in tree form! The colours are the only thing that could possibly be improved, but that is really a matter of personal taste. Excellent stuff

    Re: Still Air

Thanks for everyone's response. I've had this printed at 8x10 with more water on the left in both color and B&W and they look great. The BW lets the tree trunk stand out a bit more from the background.
Matt, the Rorsharch effect was very evident when I first saw these in the file browser thumbnails, especially the vertically framed ones that screamed 'butterfly'.

But what does "butterfly" reveal about you Chunk? lets hope it means "well balanced and creative" :-)

Glad you are happy with the printed results, it really is a very nice shot.

Wow Chunk! That is a very nice shot you have. I think the mood of the muted colors works very nicely. I like everything about it and have no critique.

I do, however, have a suggestion.... It seems like that setting has so much potential with colors. I'd love to see it with rising or setting sunlight on the trees.

    Cheers,

Hi Chunk, lovely post.Is this the original or has it been cropped ? Would like to see even more of the reflection and some more water at the bottom of the pic. lovely moody shot as it is, well done.

Thanks Tim. I'll keep that suggestion in mind for some sunrise and sunset shots. I've been thinking about marking up a county map with potential sunrise/sunset shots for those times when conditions seem good. I'm looking just about straight north in this shot. There's a bit of a hill to the west so I'm not sure how much sunset light will get to them. Worth checking out.

Thanks Bobby. I think I have one a bit more zoomed out. I cropped this to square by taking some off the left and maybe just a bit off the bottom. I wanted the tree/reflection to be as large as possible to hold as much twiggy detail as possible. I'll post a followup tonight.

    Re: Still Air

Thanks Liz. I was surprised that it was still so calm when I took this. I'd already been up for a couple hours doing this->

We had terrific weather for it this year. Some years have had pouring rain or 20 mph winds or freezing temps. Probably my last count this year so did a quick printout of this shot and the sunrise for the two people who are the county coordinators for the count to take along when I turned in my results later that day.

Chunk, I have no critique other than this was beautifully done. Reflection is spectacular and you were successful in capturing several moods. Isolation, quietness, reflection, peace and serenity.

    Re: Still Air

    love the image Chunk,

just one thing struck me about the first post and that was the top of the tree was slightly cut off, (i know, something very small, but annoyed me all the same). From the wider angle shots you posted i can see that the top of the trees are there, and thought you could crop the portrait one to include the uppermost part of the tree along with the full reflection.

The images are great, congrats...............would say they are lovely in b+w aswell.

    cheers
    anew.

Hi Chunk! Long time to see... well, actually never. lol This is a Stunning shot you took! The name is perfect because it looks like the world has come to a complete hault. Not a breeze in the air or ripple on the water. Just wow! I LOVE the close crop and the muted colors. It's just somewhere I would like to be. You did good!

Hey Kit! Good to see you back. Hope you've been taking plenty of your special photos to show us.
Thanks for the kind words, that was a great morning. It was about 30 degrees cooler this morning with na gusty wind so I wasn't out that early.
