    Bench on Path at Sunset

I took this a few weeks ago and sometimes I like it and then at times i think it is not so great. just feel to throw this out there and see what you all feel about it.
Shot with tamron 28-75 mm zoom with polarizer fuji superia 200 film and tripod as usual.
    thanks as always . . .

It's nice, but imo not nearly as strong as your other images.

I have to agree with DR on this one Gary... I can't see anything technically wrong with it, but the lighting is not as striking as in the previous shots. Still a nice photo though

    ditto what they said

I prefer the cut off bench one to this one...some of the others have been better... it's hard when you take similar shots like series...everything starts to look the same (at least it does to me) when I'm in the midst of it...

I've been browsing this forum for quite a while Gary and I personally think you're one of the better photographer on this board, at least from what I've seen so far. It's not only your photographs, it's also your critque that's always on target. You also add viewpoints that I didn't even think of.

I think you challenge yourself all the time. See, my challenge has always been; try to make a nice picture of a rather every day subject. Most amateur photographers can take beautiful pictures when they visit a zoo, a tropical Island or an interesting monument and lots of viewers are in awe when they look at the results.
Not because of the photograph, but because of the subject. That's an elemental difference.

Even in this shot I can see how you try to build up your photograph. I can really see how you prepare your shots. Depth, color, light, shadows, patterns, composition are for example several elements that give an image the exact weight, to bring the image in balance. Only when these elements are correct, you focus on other things, like special filters, a tripod, a different lens, etc, at least that's what I perceive when I read your posts and look at your images.

My impression is that you know exactly what you're doing and that you've managed to learn how to have control over your photographs, as a photographer, no matter what the subject is. You have this momentum going like they say in ice hockey, you're on the right track and if you continue to challenge yourself like you're doing now I know you're going to impress more and more people with your photographs.

Years ago I bought a book called "More joy of photography". It's the best photography book I ever bought. It shows you exactly what photography is all about. 100 chapters of 2 pages each. Chapters like "Cloudy days", "Power of color", "Depth", "Reflections", "Low key", "People", "Structure", "Lines", etc, all those different elements that serve as the basis for good photography. Your shots continue to remind me of specfic chapters and it confirms that there is a good reason why I like the majority of your shots.

I like this shot too. Interesting light, well framed, good balance between lights and shadows, sharp, no details that go lost because of darks that are too black or whites that are too bright, lines on the bench that drag the viewer into the shot, the same lines you also see in the shadows on the right side of the bench on the dirt path.
With the dirth path that starts in the bottom right corner and moves away to the left, you've avoided a boring straight path going from left to right, now you've made the image more dynamic.
Interesting colors, starting with blue at the top, yellow, green, gray.
The shot has something relaxing over it, it's the kinda place where I would like to sit down to relax after a stressful day at work. The more I look at it, the more I like it.

    Well done Gary.

I think the lighting makes that centered clump of grass/brush the somewhat un interesting star of this show. Maybe a higher angle might give a different feel.

    Elysian,
thank you for your kind words. Being that I don't have much oppurtunity to get away, i do as you say, try to make something from what ma be an every day scene. Take it out of context , sort of. Try to make a mountain out of a mole hill.
Anyway, thanks again for the time to comment, and the encouraging words

it is a nice scene but

like Elysian said you do put a lot of time and thought into your images and although very pretty it just exactly what I know you are capable of. a nice shot by any standards but not by gary standards ;)

just a minor point and question here. When I set up this shot on the tripod and was ready to squeeze the remote release, I noticed an airplane about to fly by into the scene. I decided to take the shot when the plane flew over, and to then snap it again when it was out of the scene. Obviously, this is the shot with the plane overhead. But my question is aside from everything else that may be right or wrong with this scene, is the plane so small that it looks to be a negative herer or does it add any positive dimension to the scene. Just a minor issue but I am just curious. (plane was much bigger and closer than it appears, this was a wide angle lens. . .as they say on the right side"Warning . .objects in mirror are closer than they appear"
By the way, I have been a little embarrassed here by some of the pats on the back in this thread, but one thing i have learned in my years is take the good when it comes. . . .So, thanks I'll accept

Talking that's what the speck is

I wondered what it was and presumed it was a bird but didn't mention it...it was a bird of a different kind I guess Take it out... at that angle and distance objects are SMALLER than they appeared ;)

The praise that you have recieved in this post is very well deserved. I always make it a point to look at your post. I don't always comment, if I feel the points I would like to make are already expresed by someone else, but I always look. Just so you'll know I do think this image would have been stronger without the distraction of the airplane. But as always well done.
