    Small Tree on Perkins Point

This is a scene I saw that made me very excited about and expected to be so pleased with the capture, but was ultimately. ..well, i won't say let down as i still feel good about it, but was not as powerful as I had my expectations set up for. Converted and dodged and burned a bit. How do you feel about it?

I like it, think it works. The B/W conversion worked out well for this image and I also like the sharpness.
    Well done.

This pic is great Gary. You take some really great landscape shots in. Keep going at it. I see you going places...

You touched a familiar note in your description about expectations. Sometimes you think you put it all together, only to be disappointed and other times you "settle" and you are pleasantly surprised.

I don't know what you were expecting with this shot, but I really like it. It is a theme that is fairly common, but I think your execution is superb. At first glance I thought that it would have worked better if the tree was lower in the FG, but of course that would have made it more like "all the rest". The darker FG area pointing to the tree works very well. As usual, your B&W is alive with depth.

    Excellent photo!

I like the way it looks... I may have tried to darken the bright rocks, but that's just me. The image itself is very grabbing.

Thanks all for the comments. And YoungShooter, I agree with you on this looking maybe somewhat "overlysharp". I always add a small touch of unsharp ,ask before posting but I think this image could have used a little less than normal.

    Gary,
I dont see this as overly sharp. It adds a tone of surreality to it. I think possibly it may hold more power if the crop wasnt so tight at the top, and perhaps shot at a lower angle (to the ground).
I think the all of the elements of the picture are captured wonderfully, but perhaps their placement in the picture is key for you to drive your point home.
    Great pic overall

thanks Rebekah for the comments. I see what you mean about shooting from a lower point of view. . .I could see that being effective. Iwas trying to have the horizon in the shot when taking it, but it may have worked as well or better without it. I may be going back soon and try this one again.
