    Sleepy

Trumpeter Swan sleeping away a cold and blustery day.

Face a little too dark? Hard to get a balance without blowing out all those white feathers.

yeah, it's hard to make out what it is. the shape of the swan isn't very flattering either. swans are known for their elegance and beauty, i think sadly this doesn't show that too much

it looks like a pillow to me. or a comforter. yeah, i think that's the major negative for me, it just doesn't look like a swan. nice try! and keep on shooting!

    Re: Sleepy

The classic swan shape people think about tend to be mute swans. They carry their heads curved and tend to be a bit more graceful. Trumpeters carry their necks upright and are larger than the Mutes.

Blew the feathers out, otherwise I'd really like this shot...

I appreciate the different angle you captured here, even if the shape of it seems less aesthetic than traditional shots.

One thing I've noticed about shooting ducks (and geese) is that they fall into the same 'hard to get an above average shot' category as boats and flowers do! The beauty's there, it's just so hard to capture it. I guess that's the challenge.

I suggest that you crop closer to the face, and eliminate that huge body of feathers. Additionally, see if you can make a selective adjustment to the shadow area in the face - the details could help make the image!

Cara, the 1st one of the new batch is my favourite out of all 3. nice composition and feel to this one. i wouldn't worry about overexposing the feathers. just underexpose them when shooting, then in pp u can lighten the background.
