    The Single Rose

My gf cut this from her rose bush the other day and I just had time this morning to take a few pictures.

It was taken this morning on the kitchen counter top right below a window, on an overcast day. I don't take pictures of flowers so any c&c would help.

    Thanks,
    James

The colors are great. I think that you got the crop too tight at the top and bottom - maybe portrait would have worked better? Also, I think it could be sharper (though it may be sizing and web???). When you get this close, you need to consider everything that may move the camera (assuming nothing is moving the subject!) - good tripod, remote release and mirror lock up. The background fade to dark green to black is nice.

I think flowers are wonderful practice - easy to come by, tough to shoot and beautiful.

I agree with the colors looking great. The focal point is done well and the lighting to me is perfect for the attitude of the capture. The dark background definitely helps bring out the vibrant colors. I agree with the cropping being to tight as well though.

James, I like the drop off to darkness in this shot, some stronger light on the rose itself would make it pop more though that's just my personal preference. The crop is a bit too tight on the top as I would have liked to see the the entire petal. I'm not a flower picture taker either, but they make for good practice on composition and light.
    Shootme...
