    Question Shanice

Shanice was one of 43 models I shot last weekend for a corset catalog. After the obligatory white seamless shots, we wandered outside, even though the weather flat-out sucked (gray and HEAVILY overcast). 24" shoot through umbrella hand held camera left - while shooting with other hand. Wondering if either of these have any redeeming value...

I don't know anything about the technical aspects but going by the expression on her face it both shots, it looks to me like she doesn't want to have her picture taken, Jeff

Sounds like a mad house Jim. 43 is nuts, but fun too maybe.

She does have an offbeat expression here, though I think it has a lot of potential (!) In a studio, looking a bit vulnerable, that sort of thing.

I don't think that the top one works, as the scene, lighting, expression, and pose seem a bit snap shot-ish (not the best English). I like the bottom shot in a lot of ways, neat composition, color, etc, but think that she looks very inexperienced in her pose. I'm betting after she warms up that the shots would look better and better.

Again, this model has a lot of potential... I'm thinking indoors, in a very controlled environment.. just a guess.

Held the umbrella & flash on one hand and the camera on the other ?!?!?! amazing!

    I like them both
On the 1st one , the arm pit line is ... hmm.. nice
are there hot spots on her cheek and ear ring ? my work monitor can play tricks on me

and I like the composition of the second one

the bright purple corset doesn't match her mood

Just commented on #2 over on flickr. All kinds of redeeming value.

I originally said #1 could be great with tweaking. I'm talking very minor adjustments. There's something I just love about the lighting and expression. I know everyone always says, " I wonder what it would look like in b/w," but I actually do wonder. Something tells me it would look great with careful conversion.

The shots by the tree were not fantastic when converted to B&W, but the shots at the wall, I was MUCH more impressed with:

    Excellent.

I suppose I was thinking of the Guess? shots of old (which had very similar lighting and poses) when I suggested b/w for that top image. Surprised it didn't work too well.

    But the others look great.

The b&w conversions look great, and I like the expression she has in that first b&w. Better than the rest.
    These look very good, Jim./

It went superb when it went to B&W.

    Re: Shanice

IMHO.... b/w s.... I would make the b/w conversion hard and strong.
#1 has potential... I would crop it differently though .
#2 ... shape is good but needs a bit of work on the separation of umbrella with head.
..... and model's expression is not really there.

Phil, if you'd like to play with #1 I'd be happy to send you the larger file, just PM me your email address. I'm curious about your take on the crop & conversion (I tried several before settling on this one but wasn't 100% sold on it)
