    Rusty Barrel

Took a few shots of this rusty barrel today and just wasn't happy with anything. So I tried to see if I could make something out of nothing after the fact. I gave this one a good crop and laid it on it's side. Some heavy sharpening and contrast adjustments in PS. Does it work at all as an abstract or is it still like "so what" which was my initial reaction. C&C much appreciated.

    Take care,
    Joe

An interesting abstract, makes me think of satellite photographs, just not quite sure where I am looking though!

I sort of like it but the right side of image seems to fall out of focus.

As the best part of the image is on the left I suggest you crop away about 1/3 of the image from the right. That way all that remains are the strongest colors,.tones and shapes.
    No, I DON'T need that.

The textures on the left are appealing. i agree with MB1, crop out the right side, or , start over from your original image and apply the crop to focus mostly on the interesting areas which from this image appears to be mostly that left side area.
Colors and texture detail looks nice.

Thanks for the input. That shallow DOF at the right bothered me also. I tried cropping it out but I felt it lost too much of the openings. I may actually try to re-shoot it with a smaller aperture and see what I end up with.
    Thanks again,
    Joe

Well worth a reshoot with Gary and MB1's advise. I like the concept.

Make sure you use a tripod, if you can. Like the shot, but I'm not sure how you'll be able to crop this puppy.. MAYBE the upper 1/4th, but that still leaves the big blank space in middle-upper right side.
