    Run away, Spot, run away!

Here's a couple more portraits I thought I'd throw up for critique.

#1 is Blake, my brother's-in-law brother's son, along with Spot, his dog.
#2 is Blake up against the evening sun, the shadow provided by the roof of the house. On this photo I took out the annoying background and replaced it with another one. Can you tell, and does it work?

it works around the head but not around the shoulders or under the arms. I see white under his right arm, and the right shoulder is just too sharp. But as far as the background, it works ... it gives me the idea that the kid is sitting on top of the roof or something.

(A beach background behind him would be awesome.)

yeah perhaps a little too much done on the boy, but no matter what i'd keep anything you may have done to they eyes. Nice pose on the kid, looking straight at the viewer. Good expression and lighting on the second one but that line across his chest from the shadow really hurts the image

Thanks for the comments, kellybean & mike. Portrait photography is really one area that I need to work on the most.
