    Roof trusts

I was walking round town and liked the pattern of the roof in the market place.

However, I am not happy with the photos that I took and this is the best of the bunch. Any ideas on what could be done better? or is it a dead loss subject?

    Re: Roof trusts

I think moving just a few feet to the right may have helped. It would have given a nice straight line perspective, but still shown alot of depth because of the rings in the center. It definately has potential. I'm in the same boat with having a series I'm not exactly happy with, but I'm not giving up! I'm too dern stubborn sometimes. Hopefully, we'll see some more from you on this series.

    Re: Roof trusts

Ken has a good suggestion about moving to the side (right). I'd add a couple of suggestions, such as find a different vantage point in terms of elevation as well. (higher or lower) The center circular truss buckles are a good feature and several of them are filled in with the beams. If you can get light or the same background through them all it may really enhance the image.

If you are shooting in Digital the number of shots won't obviously be as important but the more you can take, the better the "study" will reflect what might be possible.

Also, this marketplace hallway "goes" somewhere. Show us that in the photo.

A lot of architecture really pops in B/W or even monochromatic type images.

    Look forward to seeing more.

Roger, good eye for an interewsting subject. I agree with what has been stated already in that moving to the right, to create an even symetry with the frame would bve the way to go here, I feel. A higher or lower vantage point I'm not sure about but try it a few different ways if you can get back again.

    Re: Roof trusts

Thanks for all the comments - of the 20 photos this is the best so you can imagine how bad the others are - I had only bought the Canon Powershot Pro 1 5 hours before and these are some of the first ever photos with the camera. (Thats my excuse!)

I will definately be going back

The comment of lower is a possibility - higher could be very difficult. More central shot and the rings got completely lost and filled with girders. (Didn't even take the shot)

I will be going back here in the next few months to try again - Isn't digital great for messing around with a subject.

I will post a photo of the entrance to the market place later.

    Re: Roof trusts

I think the biggest problem is that the trusses are the same color as the rafters (probably to prevent them from being a focal point-merchants want the customers looking at their ware, not the roof). Imagine this shot if the trusses were painted white.
You may be able to pull this off at another time of day if the light on the trusses is significantly different from the light on the other components to give enough contrast between them.
