    My first model shoot

This was from my first model shoot. Any feedback would be appreciated.

You have a great location and a great expression. I'd suggest the following for next time:

    • Don't place her dead center in the frame - it's very static
    • Get closer - the picture is about her but we see comparitively little of her and a lot of background - you could get close at a wide-angle setting and still get some background
    • Use fill flash or expose for her face - she is comparatively overexposed - a common problem with backlighting and contributes to her being a little too orange
    • Watch the cropping/framing - she needs more space in front of her - or perhaps less - the dress is cut off awkwardly
    • Blur the background with a larger aperture - again, to isolate the subject

That's a lot of suggestions. Ultimately, it's up to you to pick and choose what works for you, but see if the attached gives you any ideas.

Lava Lamp pretty much nailed it. His crop would be ideal in a shot like this, and there all easy things to do in your next shoot. Nice shot and keep on shooting,

    Re: My first model shoot

    not sure i agree.

i hear the same comments repeatedly about comp and am cynical.

how much is what is true and how much is rote?

to look at a photo, out of context as this one is, and make blanket assessments , to me, is a bit gratuitous.

not every photo should be shot from an "artsey" perspective in imo.

because a subject is centered does not detract from comp as long as other features such as lighting, color, contrast, and corrolation with surroundings are in sync.

personally i like the original better.

the problem with this page is i am unable to look at the photo while commenting and this limits my ability to critique, however, at first impression, something that carries a lot of weight on for me, the original would work fine with the proper collection.
