    Pups in the spotlight

Here is something I tried the other day. Not 100% yet but getting closer to what I want. What do you guys think?

Here is the expert. This guy knows what is up when the camera comes out. This one I like a lot. I wish his head was tipped down a bit more.

This little guy is new to posing. He took some work. Good thing he loves BBQ leftovers. On this one the thing I know I want to do different is change the angle of the light. Not so straight down. A bit more from the front and maybe a little further away so I get a broader spot light.

That first one looks good. I agree with your critique.
If the head was tilted down a bit it would look a bit better but it's a good shot regardless. The light looks soft enough for a good dark portrait.
The second one looks a bit too bright on the face and pretty dark under the chin. You should post your next shots also.

The only critiques i have you already mentioned in your own post. First doggie is good, head down a bit more (might be hard to control) and second doggie is a little dark on the front for my tastes, but a change in the direction of light would be good.

Thank you for the input! I will have to try this again when I get a spare second. I definitely need to get the light more into the side of the little guys body. He is just too dark.

I think it would be good to get my girlfriend to help too. I had the camera on a tripod, flash in one hand, treat in the other and the remote in my mouth, while manual focused on a spot that I was trying to keep the dogs in.

    Re: Pups in the spotlight

I like the bottom image better. Just the way his head is angled up and the dramatic lighting. However I think it's too strong/intense. Also that strange little ovaled light reflection on the ground needs to go. I like he wide open eye though it makes the image look edgy (good or bad).

The top image is OK and the lighting is definitely better IMO, but I don't care for the angle it was shot at here, just puts too much emphasis on his neck when I think it should be more focused on other areas.

    Not a bad little model!
