Phil - Pretty model. I think I prefer the color one here .. dark, rich colors, with intense eye contact. Interesting how her eye color matches her hair.
The black and whites are OK but seem a little too contrasty to me. It's tough to make black outfits work in harsh lighting .. gotta run for the shadows in this situation.

yes If I had to do this all over again... I would raise up the strobe for the colored one
and the b/ws.... shoot with the sun behind her not on her side.... oh well.
the B/W conversion ...I was going for that old style almost washed out look...where the blacks are super black and the whites are almost washed out
like this
Phil, I like them all, but I'm really partial to the b/ws. I like the contrast... very editorial-looking. Number two would be my fave, but undecided about the shadow on her face. It is artsy and cool, but it also detracts from the otherwise editorial look...

thanks dude... I'm with you on the shadow.... every time I look at that pic with the harsh shadow ...it reminds me of a raccoon. LOL
Phil, I love the back lighting on the hair in the first portrait, but the main light from your strobe looks too low, which i think is what you were addressing in your last statement about it. Not crazy about her makeup.
I like the second portrait the most because her expression (which looks as though something has suddenly caught her attention) is interesting. I like the hard shadow on her neck and from her hair, but you seem to have lots of fill on the face making the shadow from her nose very mild. The portrait you posted as an example has very hard shadows from a light source directly above.
Still, that second one is pretty nice. My only real concern would be the tree branch behind her head. The third is also very good. the moment is good and the b&w works well.
