    A Place of Learning

Here is an image I took this evening of our beautiful Central Library. Enjoy!

Great framing of a beautiful piece of archictecture. The slow shutter speed works nicely in the streaks of red tail lights and I'm guessing the aperture was closed down to about f8 -f16 to get the starry lights effect? Good shot.

I love it! The colours are spectacular and i love the headlights/tailights streaking across the frame!

    Re: A Place of Learning

    great photo,

verticals are spot on, which is really important with this type of shot, and the exposure is perfect. one little nitpick, and its only a very minor thing, but i would have preferred it if the right of the building wasn't butting up against the picture frame, i feel it needs just a little bit of space to the side.

    congrats on a great pic,

    cheers

Thanks, everyone! Yes, I may have to go back and try to get a shot with a little more room on the right. It's difficult as there are other distracting elements there...we'll see.

    Hi,
The focus of this shot is the building, which is beautifully depicted. The purple colour of the sky complements the whole shot well. The car on the right is elongated. Is this due to the perspective correction? Off the topic, do you like the camera? What are its strength and weaknesses?

Thanks, Yoyo! Yes, the elongated car is due to the perspective correction. I wanted to use a tilt shift lens, but the focal length was too long for a shot like this.

With respect to the 1Ds MkII, it's a good camera.

Strengths: High megapixel count; low noise, even at high ISO; built like a tank with weatherproofing (really comes in handy in a city like Seattle); excellent autofocus and metering system

Weaknesses: Sensor attracts a lot of dust (better than my 1Ds but still seems to attract more than my 1DMkII); need to push a minimum of 3 buttons to enable/disable mirror lockup

    Hope that helps!

A perfect blend of reflected and transmitted light. Very dramatic and a view that is only available photographically. I'll bet the Architect would love this shot too.
