    Pattern of Life

A rather loose pattern from this angle but always a welcome scene in the spring. The new corn leaves look almost like a herd of butterflies.

    Chunk,

Love this random, almost abstract feeling. Great concept and a good eye. My one nitpick would be if they could be a little more definate, or have a big one in the foreground, but I believe it works well as is.

    Nice shot,

    Jared

Chunk, your eye for these patternsnever fails to impress. Great glowing green newborns emerging from the dark soil. Great comp. One nit is the lighting maybe too harsh on the soil as there is much reflection coming from the ground where as I would like to see more of the dark warm brown to contrast even stronger with the greens. A burn brush going over may bring it down to earth.. Good title as well.

    Dear Chunk,

An interesting pattern. I just wish it was a bit stronger in terms of color. The corn almost blends in a few places. Probably due to the light portions of the field. I don't know whether this helps or not. I might reshoot. A good idea none the less.

    Nice shot,

Thanks for the comment, Jared. I used a telephoto shot to stack things up and get the feeling of many plants of similar size filling the field. As it is, the more distant plants are only about 1/2 as large as the nearer. Your suggestion is interesting and I might try it out, but it wouldn't give the feeling I wanted here.
Here's closer shot isolating a few plants.

Thanks, Gary. "Bring it Down to earth" - that's good.
Your suggestion makes a lot of sense. Here's a reworked shot with selective levels and darkening. Do you think that's enough?
The reason for all the reflectivity in the soil is the low angle of the sun and the fact that modern conservation tillage leaves a lot of detrious from last year's crop on the surface of the field as a mulch to hold moisture and help prevent erosion.

Thanks, Drew, I think all responses help. Does the version I posted in response to Gary address those concerns?
Here's a shot of another field from a couple days ago that still has the 'emerging life' feel but shown in a bolder way I think.

Thanks Mark. Sunlight through leaves is one of my favorite things to see.

    Re: Pattern of Life

Just realized that I used a different shot for this reply. Sorry for any confusion.

    Re: Pattern of Life

    Chunk,

The shot you showed for Gary is much better in my opinion. The darker soil makes the green stand out much more. As for the shot you suggested for me, I understand why you'd want to stay with the huge lot of them.

    Great shooting,

    Jared

    Dear Chunk,

Yes, I think the one you posted to Gary is an improvement. I think it conveys the feeling you wanted to convey much better. There are the small sprouting corn plants against the dark soil. I also like the second one you posted. The curving rows of corn are very pleasing to the eye. I might concentrate more on the curves, but it is very nice. A very nice series you have here.
