    PANORAMA or LANDSCAPE

I took a few shots of a sunset last week end. I realy like the way the darkness frames the red, rising sun. The morning was very overcast

I cropped one shot to a panoramic proportions as there was too much black top and bottom. The other image is a little more landscape proportions. Would be interested in opinions of others on these images.

Always was a sucker for panoramics! So clearly my vote is on the second pic. Real nice!

    Third Possiblity

Nice colors. I like #2 best, but I'm reminded of something I saw once from a photographer who would compress sunsets by reducing the width 20% or more, without changing the height. Here's your image reduced 40% in width and cropped...

Very nice capture. I have no suggestions - I just couldn't pass this by without commenting. As for choice, I would choose the first over the panorama though both serve their purpose nicely.

In both, the rich, dark black on top and bottom along with the expansive use of empty space (especially in the first picture) adds greatly to the drama of the sunset.

hehehe...I knew some things are different down under, but I didn't realize you had your sunsets in the morning.
This is a terrific sunrise Irish. I think I like the panoramic shot better but I'm not sure why. Maybe because of the deeper reds. I don't think it's because of the wider proportions.

That was a good book, too.

    Thanks for your comments

Thanks for your comments and affirmation Steph_B.

Lava Lamp thanks for your input but I'm not sure why you would want to crop so much off this image. It may "intensify" the colour but it loses the impact of the red against the black in this instance.

Once again Tuna you re-inforce the reason a enjoy the critique forum here so much. You are able to express in words what I see and feel about an image but am not always able to put it into words. Thank you.

Hey Chunk......You got me there. I guess I didn't know which way was up at that time of the morning. I too liked the panoramic image but after reading Tuna's comments I have to think a little more..

I guess I was confused to. The book I was thinking of was actually "Red Sky AT Morning" which was a coming of age novel placed in the American southwest during WW2 (I think).
I just did a search on amazon.com and found there are more than a dozen books with that title. There are also a few titled "Red Sky in the Morning". I still don't know which auther wrote the one I was talking about.

Ohh! I am not a great reader of novels.

My refernce to Red Sky in the Morning was referring to the addage:

    Red sky at night
    Shepherd's delight
    Red sky in the morning
    Shepherd's warning

    That's how I remember it???
