I don't know about this one myself, but you be the judge.

This rocks!! I'm nitpicking here, but if you could crop right between the rocks to the right but somehow keep that foreground "clutter" so that the main rock is a little more off center but the foreground has some interest, I don't see how it could be better. You need to work for Oregon's tourism industry.

I think with that much foreground in the shot you could use something there, footprints ect. But still a nice shot.

Nice. Maybe a lower viewpoint showing more detail in the sand would improve it.

I kinda like the fact that it is such a clean shot and looks like a section of beach that is untouched, Jeff

    Re: Oregon Rocks 3

    Thanks,

Paula, thanks for the nit pick. They add up and I agree that the foreground is a bit dark to eat up so much space. When you're there it seems like the contrasty foreground is a good thing: it may be one of those situations where the human eye captures a lot more dynamic range than film or sensor, causing the photo to not be quite what you know you saw... Ahh...

Frog, it is flat. Thanks for pointing that out because I knew something was up just not what. I think I used a GND filter here and maybe a polarizer. They can change a photo in either a good or bad way.

Greg, Lava, not much detail there to show. I could PS some in ... .... naahh, too phony.

Jeff, I see you feel the plain sand is a plus. In-teresting ..............

    Thanks too Daq.

    Re: Oregon Rocks 3

First off, It is a very nice shot!!

Being here at the critique section though... here goes for what it's worth:

1- There are a couple of dots in the sky... black specks one to the left and one to the right... nothing drastic, but I'm guessing at a larger size they would show more...

2- It leaves me aching or wishing I could see more of the water... a different angle maybe? panning to the left? I agree that the other shots were more exciting to me...

It could be the light that has taken some of the beauty of this pic away though....

Anyway, overall, it's interesting... it works to a certain extent, but not a magazine photo....

    Hope this helps...

I agree with Shebang in regards to the clutter on the right. There's also a mark in the sand (perhaps a footprint) on the left side of the photo that you might want to crop out. When I take these kinds of shots I like to have it pristine or obviously lived/utilized when working with a foreground. Great shot regardless and it looks you were able to enjoy a wonderful day on the beach!

    Re: Oregon Rocks 3

Marc, those "dots" are birds. When one uses a normal shutter speed they don't come out sharp: I've removed many of them from my Oregon shots, just missed this one, so I certainly agree that it would be better w/o them !

I don't believe this one was shot early morning or at sunset. It's sort of a dilemma: you're traveling but can't be at every spot during the golden hrs. Not sure what the solution is here... maybe a sunset filter?

Trout bum, good eye! I too think it might be best with a totally pristine beach or with footprints, nothing in between. Yeah the beach is always relaxing, but I was so busy shooting I really didn't have time to enjoy it. I guess I just have even more fun running around with a camera

Oh please no, no more footprints in the sand on a beach.

Good shot GB1, The first thing I thought when I saw this was 'film', it literally screamed 'this was shot with film'.. It definitely has that look in the colors. Excellent exposure.

I think it makes a very nice background, to me it seems to be missing a subject in the foreground, being it a dog, or a person , a log ... something

    Re: Oregon Rocks 3

When I view it large with picture viewer, I do see some things in the near foreground. What looks like it might be half a foot print in lower left and some drift wood on the right. There is also some wind or water ripples in the sand.
Because the shot appears so pristine, I think in this case they are a small distraction.
The rocks in the right bg do not bother me and if they were removed, I feel it would be taking too much liberty with what is.
This reply is after looking at the shot again and at full screen after reading the other critiques.
    It is a fine shot.
