    The Old Cowboy

Sorry that I don't get over here to the Critique Forum more often, the Gallery seems to take up a very large portion of my PR time. I would like to get some opinions on an image I did yesterday at a local street festival. This gentleman was working a booth and I grabbed two quick shoots of him as I passed by in one his eyes were closed but the second really intrigued me. I tried it in color but thought b&w with a bit of a tint did more to bring out the character in this old cowboy. This is a bit different than what I usually do but still a side of photography I really enjoy. What do you think.

My wife happened to look over my shoulder as I brought this up and she said first it looked like a cowboy poet and then she said maybe a 30 yr old Marlboro man.
Maybe she should critique more often as it does show that you have achieved a photo with character.
It is very well done. I'm not sure I like the tint.

Your absolutly right...this photo does lend itself well to be B&W. I don't think the cowboy's rugged face would have near the character in color. Great shot.

Great shot OT. You may want to try and desaturate it a little more it seems to have a green tint, maybe my monitor? What a good shot.

Very nice OT! I agree with Greg that the green tint may not be the best choice. I suspect either red or blue would give it that little *extra* without being as detectable. There's also a dead pixel or piece of fuzz on his hat where his hairline meets his forehead that really stands out.

Thanks to all for your comments and your input on this image. I tried both red and blue as a low level tint but to me the slight green tint seemed to bring out the ruggedness of this gent the best. I don't have any problems with others giving it a try. I am the first to admit I'm a novice with the post processing.
