This bird has been hanging around in my backyard lately. I took this photo when he was preched high up in a tree 50 yards away. Taken with D70 and 75-300mm, cropped and worked on in PS.

Very nice! You must have some water around. They are really beautiful birds. It's fun to watch them catch fish. If you're lucky, he may drop in on your tree with one of his catches so you can capture him chowing down.

This crop and composition is excellent, I feel. It seems though that you must have had to really crop it down quite a bit to fill the frame as it looks like the grain is visible and some loss of image quality.
Great pose you caught the bird in, which helps make up for the loss of image quality.
