    Newport Bridge Photo

    Hello folks:

I am a new poster here. My name is Nate and I live in Rhode Island. I've been taking photographs for about as long as I can remember, however, a few years ago, I started really learning about the craft. I bought a Pentax SLR and took a Photography I course at my local community college. This past Christmas, my wife bought me a Nikon D-70 Digital SLR (so now I can spend more time taking photos and less time developing in my kitchen)

I have some photographs I'd like to get some feedback on. I will also be providing feedback myself on images others have posted. This particular photograph is of the Newport Bridge here in RI on a cold December morning just before sunrise, taken with a Pentax ZX-50 SLR with color slide film.

    Thank you...Nate

Welcome to the forum Nate! It's always great to see new members posting. You have really captured some beautiful colors in this shot and I'm a big fan of the silhouette of the bridge and the location within the frame is nice too. The image seems a rather soft tho. I'm guessing that the actual slide is much sharper and the softness is a result of the scan. A very nice image.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the original is much sharper. The program I use to create online galleries (jalbum) has a tendency to soften images in an effort to save file space. My favorite thing about this particular photograph is the deep red colors in the water on the bottom half of the photo.

Great shot and lovely colors. Would love to see a sharper pic, as the pixels are very prominent in this and distracting me from such a good shot.

    Nice shot,

Okay...thanks for the feedback folks. I'm attempting to repost this with higher resolution. Let's see how this goes. ;)

Ahh, this is much better. There is so much detail visible in the water that just wasn't there with your oariginal scan.

Super! The sharper image just sells it. At first I was going to suggest cropping off some of the bottom, but no need...

I do love the wonderful rich colors, and how the repeat in the water -- if anything, I'd like to see a bit more at the far end of the bridge to add a bit to the depth, but this is such a super image I'd be afraid to mess with it much.
