I think the b/w works.
The angle, the boats in back, the tree branches aren't working for me.
I think you need to go down the bank about where that white bucket is and thus eliminate the stairs on the left and maybe be able to block out the boats in back.
It looks to be an interesting subject but this composition just doesn't work for me.
Hope you can get some other angles.

Thanks Frog. I always like to hear your perspective. The stairs on the left I felt needed to be in the shot.... You are making me rethink this. I will be going back there next week. I'll get down to the point you suggested.
Thanks again.
It's not blurry. It's bokeh.

I'm with frog in this - the mono works fine, but the composition itself is just a little "messy" (for want of a better word). There are quite a lot of extraneous elements there (the trees, the boats which impinge on the top of the shed, some litter, and so on). Sometimes, I think, there is just too much to get it all in and keep a pleasing composition.
I am glad you can get back there, because it very definitely is worth another look - I would be inclined to get closer, and simplify the image: just the stairs down, or just a view of the shed door along the little jetty leading to it, etc.
I like the building, it's interesting and makes you wonder what it would be like to live there. The angle you took it at is sort of common, but at the same time it makes you feel like you live there. I think the shot might be stronger w/ a person or two in it, maybe not looking at the camera.

I like the various leading lines created by the stairs, ramp, & electric lines. I also feel likw the stairs need to be included, but the tree branches top left and the boats being chopped off are hurting the composition. It would be nice to get all of the dinghy on the lower right bank into the shot. It looks to me like this was taken from a standing position, and I think I would try the same shot from a lower perspective (kneeling or even laying down) which might just solve the tree/boat problems while keeping all the good stuff. It is certainly worth a second visit!
Another suggestion would be to move maybe15 or 20 feet to the right of where you took this shot. You could eliminate the stairs, get the entire dingy in the shot and be looking down the side of the building that has some shape to it and not just a straight side. This would let you also position the trees in the background instead of being up front. basicly shoot from right to left instead of left to right, Jeff
