Need some advice on this.

I took this shot yesterday, and it took a few tries to get it right, but Im not sure if its perfect. It looks a bit dark on my monitor, but looking at it at school, and my friends houses, it looks great. I dont know if its too dark, or if its just my settings. If its too dark, this is really close to my house, so I will just reshoot the shot with different settings. I think it came out really well, and everyone on the bike sites seemed to like it, its a unique shot I guess.

Shot at f3.7 with a 1/30 shutter speed, 50 ISO, I would just raise it to 100 ISO if you guys think its too dark. Flash just messed it all up.

also, do you think I should change the apeture to make the rider a little less blurry? I think it might not be as good if its less blurry. I will experiment tomorrow and post the results.

looks great, but i may suggest that u reposition your self slightly more to the right, and maybe get a pic of like the bike coming out from the tree the skinny is built into. Where is that trail, my has 3 feet of snow in it, i have an itch to ride. oh it would look alot better if you got that Specialized outta there- J/k. looks great. take alot from different angles, like with 30 shots, your bound to get a good 1 play th enumbers if you arnt pro, i am worken on my skills, more the better i have learned

My only problem with moving to the right is that I wouldnt be able to get the loop of barb wire in the picture. I might try some more angles with the barb wire. Here is a picture of the same stunt that i like a ton also.


Oh, and this trail is in Greenville, SC. We rode in 70 degree weather in shorts today in pisgah national forest in NC. Its great.

The first barb wire one. Either the red bike or the rust in the barb wire that draws your eye to the red of the bike. This image seems to work the best because more of the attention is brought to th rider on the bike. And there is also a nice contrast between the red tones in the rusted wire, the leaves on the ground, the bike, and the green leaves in the tree. I feel that in the second one, the bike and biker is almost lost. I don't know if this really has to do with the fact that the print is a bit darker or not. Anyway, great job!

I agree with Tiffany in that the barb wire shot that is lighter or more exposed( which was actually your second posted pic on this thread) is the better. The reddish tones in the wire and the fact that the bike caught in this shot is red as well, make for a good visual contrast among the green foliage. good work

I actually like the first one better but I don't quite "get" why you are showing the contrast between barbed wire and mountain biking. There doesn't seem to be any logical connection there, other than the happen-stance of them being together in this particular place. Not saying it's a bad idea, I just don't quite get the connection.

Ummmm, I dont know, I dont really photgraph "deeply" enough to have connections, but its mainly that I just wanted to take a unique shot that not everybody had done before. The only thing that I could think of would be the fact that this trail is sort of illegal, so its showing the barb wire with the trail in the background?? Pretty much its just the fact that barb wire and the trail happened to be in the same spot.

I like the darker image better. To me it just seems richer in color. I would like to see the bike a little more in focus though.

I vote for the first post...if you could reshoot with about a 1/2" more on the bottom and about 1/4 to 1/2 inch on the right of the shot...and as was already suggested...the rider a little more in focus and visible...

I think this is a pretty creative shot...

Lots of good advice on this thread. I might reshoot it, but I will probably just wait until we have more stuff built to shoot. We actually made two little videos out there yesterday. Thanks for the input guys.
