    My Tree

This is my favorite tree, shot just before dusk with my digital rebel & daylight filter. Settings were on auto.

    Hi Janie,

I really like the 2nd shot -- just crips colors and all. What would your tree look like right now with light from the rising sun?

I'll have to shoot it in the morning - wanted to go back today but it was 18 degrees out and yesterday was 70 out when I shot the first one!

Brrrrrr. What photographers do to get the shot....

I asked about the morning because maybe some of that haze would not be there in the background. I do like the clouds overhead. So, make sure you order clouds for your next trip out...

p.s. One thing I've learned about daylight filters, or UV filters, or whatever filter one has on to protect the lens, is that colors are subtly muted. The difference is exasperated in the twilights. One time I was just frustrated at not getting the colors I "saw" during a sunset. My friend's shots were just great. It turns out she took off here "protective" filter. So, I now always do this whenever the colors just count.

Yeah, I wish I had taken it off but the sun was in a wierd spot that was making sun spots without the filter.

Hmm, think I need to shut my pc down - the wind is blowing so hard it's blowing my neighbor's tree on the power lines over my father's new truck! I don't think i'll have power long!

Both shots are pleasing and that is a good subject. Yeah, I would love to see one at sundown or sunrise when there is dramatic lighting falling about.
That wind is still blowin hard. Gusts up to 50 mph. Sheets of ice all over the streets.

I like the colors in this pic, none of them contrast to much against the other colors and there is harmony. The light in the tree branch matches the ground plants.

The pic has a sort of profound feeling to it. Like someone picked that spot to be buried at when the die.

I like trees and nature shots, it's a bit bare but I like simplicity.

    Re: My Tree

I like your choice in trees. This one certainly has some character, having overcome some adversity and continuing on with its life, still trying to reach its potential. It's not the prettiest tree around but I like what it stands for. I like that kind of people too.
It's funny to me that someone posted a tree shot right now. I often notice individual trees but seldom photograph them but decided last Sunday to start stopping and grabbing some of those shots to see if I can capture the feeling that I have while viewing them. Your posting strengthens that resolve.

THank you! Funny you should say the part about being buried there! That tree is right behind the Spy House in Port Monmouth - one of 3 most haunted houses in the world and that tree is directly below the window where abigail (a ghost) is said to gaze out the window, looking for her husband who was a ship captain lost at sea. If you want to see the window she haunts, it's here: http://bizfx.com/spyhouse/abbywindow.jpg
