The first one doesn't do much for me but the 2nd one is nice!
The 2nd one "works" for two important differences, IMO: 1) the nice S-bend in the brook and how it leads right through the viewer - drawing him in, up, and around the frame, and 2) the small patch of not-quite-sunlight at the bend adds just enough difference in lighting to make it look not so flat.
My only negative comment is that the shutter is perhaps a stop too slow. I would have perferred to see a little more texture in the waterflow by using a slightly faster shutter. Not all waterflows necessitate ultra long shutter speeds.
