My stream after a lot of rain

I have a stream in my woods on my property, and I have never yet gone to take photos of it until now, after quite a bit of rain. So here are two shots that I thought looked alright.
If they are a bit dark, it is because of my computer (brighter when I edit them than they appear on the internet). And yes, I was standing in the middle of the stream with my tripod to get the second shot.

I'm not sure what my speed was, I variated it but on average I was around 1-2 seconds. My F-stop was different according to shutter speed and light conditions. Normally I think I had it in the area of F14-16.

We know about rain lately in Washington, don't we.
I like both of these. Nice color and even though the water is probably faster than normal, it looks peaceful.

Very nicely done! Yes, I know about the WA rain - I live in an area that had record flood levels for our river.

If your images appear darker once you upload them then it's a profile problem. Do you know about color management? Do you know about profiles? Have you calibrated your monitor? All Web browsers display using the sRGB profile. I convert all of my Web images to sRGB (from Adobe RGB) before I save them as JPEGs.

If this makes no sense to you at all, then you know what your next research project is

Thanks for that you just answered a problem I had a few weeks ago in that I forgot to use the Adobe to sRGB conversion macro in PSP before uploading. Senility is truly wonderful - now what did I go upstairs for?

Nice shots David, #2 is my favorite. Looks like it was worth getting your feet wet.

Re: My stream after a lot of rain

The first one doesn't do much for me but the 2nd one is nice!

The 2nd one "works" for two important differences, IMO: 1) the nice S-bend in the brook and how it leads right through the viewer - drawing him in, up, and around the frame, and 2) the small patch of not-quite-sunlight at the bend adds just enough difference in lighting to make it look not so flat.

My only negative comment is that the shutter is perhaps a stop too slow. I would have perferred to see a little more texture in the waterflow by using a slightly faster shutter. Not all waterflows necessitate ultra long shutter speeds.

    Good job

Re: My stream after a lot of rain

Number two is the best for sure, I just like it a lot more for most of the reasons others have said. As for the shutter speed, I used different speeds, but in the end this picture looked the best on average so I chose it.

I like both these images. The water rushing in contrast to the leaves that are in sharp focus. You should try to print them as B & W's too.
