It might help to know what software you are using to edit and resize your images.
I actually don't think it looks bad at all. Really cute shot.
How I resize in Photoshop:
I usually do all my editing first, unsharp mask, saturation, etc.
Next I use the crop tool to crop 400x600 vertical or 500x350 horizonta at 72 dpi.
Then I use File>save for web> feature to size it down for faster upload, but sometimes I don't do this last step if the file can't be saved in a smaller size without compromising image quality. As long as the file is 195k or smaller, and smaller than 600 pixels wide, you should be able to upload it on this site. I have DSL, so that helps a lot from my end, but I'm sure my posts aggravate many users on this site because I have a tendency to post rather largish photos.

Personally, I think it's a great shot. I love the colors that are incorporated in this shot (the orange of the pumpkins, the green of the toque, the yellow of the grass.) Very vivid and bold colors. Only thing I'd change would be the pacifier, yet, I doubt a kid could live with his pacifier long enough for the picture
I like the shot actualy, maybe him holding the pumpkin in the foreground would have been a bit better rather then resting it on his feet but I realise this requiers the tykes cooperation. The colors work well together and, well, he's a little pumpkin among the pumpkins..
cheers....

ok...here's where i'm confused...i understand that i can get someone's opinion on the composition of my photo here...but i'm a little unsure of the purpose as far as the quality of the picture is concerned (focus, light, etc.) when you post it, depending on the software (apparently) and what you have to do to post it, (resize) the quality is totallly compromised. not to mention that i could make it look how ever i wanted with photoshop...or whatever...

Main idea here is to help and be helped to learn and develope our art form. We post and hope for constuctive criticism and of course what we humans crave, praise. I have been taking pics for 35 years now and am still learning. Mostly we are kind with our critique and trick is not to take anothers opinion personally. If you like your pic then thats good enough, but when you see how a simple thing can improve it,.........I like your pic and what a lovely expression !! my only nit pic is there are too many melons or whatever they are, i want to see more of the child!! Thanks for sharing and post again and see if you can size it right, then we can help you with the next step.
