Re: My Daughter at a wedding

    Gomm,
Thanks for letting me show you what I was thinking. This is simply another angle on a fantastic image. The only reason I thought of it was because I was not overly pleased with the fact that she was holding items in her hands that added nothing to the overall image message. This is just a quick job so critique is not necessary from any onlookers.

    Gomm,

Thanks for letting me show you what I was thinking for this fantastic image of your daughter. The only reason I thought of it was my uncertain feeling for what she was holding in her hands, objects that added nothing visually and perhaps take away from this great portrait. Keep in mind this is a quick job so please onlookers don't tear it apart.

Re: My Daughter at a wedding

Just so you know I didn't cut the foot off the dad did in the original post. As the image is of a low posted quality is was very hard to get anything into the facial area without it changing the look of this wonderful child to anything but a bad fix up.

My demonstration to the original poster was to demonstrate what had been suggested as descriptions with words often is lost in the translation of the readers. As I said previously a Picture is worth a thousand words. Now knowing that the original poster doesn't have Photoshop (don't know what program he has), makes it harder to try and assist someone.

This is my last post in this thread.

Next time use the flash and it will do it. It may seem counterintuitive, but the time you really want to use your on-camera flash is outside, where it can provide "fill flash."

Nice pic. I think everyone had given you some good tips for next time. Keep shooting.

Re: My Daughter at a wedding

Hi Gomm and welcome to "ww3"...hehe..no actually, this is a wonderful site of very concerned and talented photographers. There has been a recent bruhaha about this very subject of editing someone elses work without specific permission. I am guilty of it myself and am correcting my actions. One of the outcomes of the other thread (mentioned by mjs1973), is that there are people who appreciate being "shown" and others who would prefer that their original picture stand as is. I and many others have started using the "Feel Free" logo in our signatures (see below) that allows people to freely make corrections to try to help us learn. Others are choosing to make a small statement in their signatures asking not change their photos. FYI, it is site policy not to use anyones photo for any reason unless you have permission. If you are interested in adding the feel free logo to your signature, please let me know and I will lead you through the steps.

As for your photo, I think you have a wonderful shot. I am currently taking some lessons and one of the first things my instructors tell me is to "simplify". Take out any distracting elements if possible and make your subject the most prominent thing in your picture. You have accomplished the latter by making her the largest thing in the shot. Of the various edits, I have to agree with Peter's. But all of them have good and bad points. Please take them all, process them, use what works for you and enjoy the final outcome that pleases you the most.
Congratulations on starting a very interesting thread!!! It also goes to show that there are many of us who do not read every forum on the site and sometimes issues don't get to everyone!
I look forward to many more posts from you!

Re: My Daughter at a wedding

Obviously your little edit was a quick job Jonas because it's a little rough around the edges but its a great idea, I'm just wondering how you did it! It's also probably very hard to edit an image that had to be cut down from 9 million pixels down to like 300 000 pixels so that it didn't take 3 hours to upload on the internet cause I've only got dial up. Just to let you know, there is a story behind the tissues she's holding in her hands. She had just been crying because it was an extremely long day for her and she was getting tired. Anyway, she'd got to many tissues and was trying to palm of the unused ones to her uncle (the groom) to her right who she's looking at in the photo. Knowing this makes the photo even more special to me. Anyway, I really like the idea and I look forward to buying a proper editing programme and trying things like that myself.

could you post the original file? I had some suggestions, but I was curious as to what the original looks like before I make them.

    Thanks
