    Mount Denali Sunrise

    The sun strikes the top of mount Denali.

    Re: Mount Denali Sunrise

    Nice soft pic. The only thing that might be better would be to add more of the water into the shot (requiring you to get closer with wide angle lens), maybe even getting the reflection of the mtn in the water? Nice picture either way

    Hey EOS,

    Nice shot. I agree with GB1 on this.... Also, I was wondering if you have any in this series when the sun was higher. I'd love to see how this unfolded and was thinking this would bring out the colors more.

    Nice shot. Beautiful scene, and having the reflection would be an interesting touch. The only problem I have is the haziness that occurs with the mountains far out. It's hard to work with, but sometimes it can be fixed.

    Other then that great shot, and beautiful place,

    Jared

    Re: Mount Denali Sunrise

    Denali isn't an easy mountain to very close to. Wonder lake is probably the closest place within the park that is somewhat easily accesible, but the campground there is usually booked well in advance. With my job, I have to be very flexible on my days off, so I can't plan for the campground. The smoke was thick in Alaska this fire season, and along with the re size for posting rendered the picture a little soft. Here is one from later in the morning, the sun never really lit the clouds like I wished it would, and the clouds wouldn't cooperate forcing me wide and far away to get them in. Still it was the best day I have had at Denali in 5 attempts. Thank you for the comments.

    Wow! So what size lens did you use for your first shot?

    Much respect for your efforts and photos...

    Re: Mount Denali Sunrise

    Great shot EOS.. IMO I wouldn't add any water to it. Infact I would crop out the water all together. For some reason the brightness of the water draws my attention too much away from the mountains. I think it would've looked nicer if you took out the water in the foreground and just left the trees in.

    Something like this (also a slight bit of adjustment to take out some of the hazyness- although I really like the pink tones).

    You could try a bit of Unsharpen Mask

    Does your software package have USM?

    If you use USM with a large radius and small strength, you can draw out some hidden detail and remove some haziness. I've attached an attempt on your image with:

    radius = 100
    strength = 85
    clipping = 0
    (PaintShopPro)

    That's all I've done with the 1st attached. My next step would be to shift the histogram to the right a little. That's the 2nd image. I could have done a much better job with these to steps, but I present it as just something to think about (and I hope you don't mind).
    Cheers,
    Tim
