Crazy! I commented on your other shot before seen this one. I said that it looked wierd that the moons reflection wasn't there and now this.

Anyways, I prefer Moon over Marina too. Everything was perfectly lit there. Here you get a couple of really bright lights on the right and their reflections that throw me off. Also I don't know how you got the moon to reflect but it needs a bit of work. Maybe a motion blur in which you set to side ways to give the illusion of a water reflection. Plus the reflection of the moon wouldn't be this far down imo. It would further up ( right below the lights)

I really like your composition here & enjoy the warm lighting. The reflection of the moon isn't quite working for me though.

At first i liked it very much then i got uneasy. I found as i looked at it that the man made lights where outshining the two moons. Dont know if i am explaining that too well. Otherwise a lovely scene.

The night shot of the marina is perfectly executed in technical terms and beautifully composed, but am not sure that the moon sits comfortably or naturally within the composition - I think the picture would have been sufficient without it.

I agree with all the comments on the moons reflection. It did not quite sit right with me when i posted it. Here is the original, and , even if it should be there it does not have to be. As a matter of fact I think it helps keep the comp cleaner without it. Thanks for the comments on this.

Really nice Gary. When I first saw the moons reflection the first thing I thought was that it did not actually look like an actual reflection at all. The picture looks a treat with it removed. The pink colour of the boat is a weakness I think; a bolder colour would have been more compatible. But you had no control over that.

Gary, I think that this is a superb scene, unfortunatelly hurt by the strong reflection of the two lamps on the right. The lamps by themselves looks great but their reflection create significant hot spots that command too much attention. I am not sure how to fix this. Any crop would be very harmful by taking away interesting elements so perhaps a slight burning of these reflections would help. That's sad because I really think that the shot is fantastic otherwise. The mood is great as usual. The line created by the poles is neat too.

As for the moon, I'd say that this is a fine addition for the reason I have already stated in your other shot but I prefer this shot without a reflection. I am interested by the way you distorted that reflection to give it a more realistic feel but the final result didn't felt good to me. I think that the position of the reflection was off although I am not too sure how a real moon would reflect in these circumstances.

I'd like to know, were did you shot these???

    regards

    Seb

Tom, thanks for the thoughts on this. Yes, the boat is a bit soft in color and I may try saturating it slightly just for more definition.
Seb, yes, I may try burning in the lights a bit more as I have already done so a bit, but burning in lightss never seems to do the intended trick. I may try completely extinguishing them with the touch of the clone brush as well as the reflections in the water. I do not think it will be missed.
This is a marina in SheepsHead Bay, Brooklyn. A 10 min. drive from my home. A great place to hang out and relax with lots of restaurants and activity going on along the streets

    Gary, Seb,

I took some pictures back in July with a half moon trying to cature the reflection of the moon in the marina where Can Y Mor is berthed. In the photo of the marina's in the Hamble the moon reflection is barely perceptable, so I took the photo of the reflection itself and can e-mail you if you like or post both in another thread.

Roger, you could post it in a thread or start one on reflections. Emailing me the pic would be fine as well., Thanks for looking out.
