    Guitar

    Hi,
    Shot of my new guitar.

    Any thoughts?

I really like this shot - it would make a nice print.

The only thing I would change and this is purely personal - I'd increase the DOF just a little so that the front knob and curve were crisp in focus.

Very nice. I agree with Andy about getting the front knob in focus. With the lighting giving us the highest contrast there it becomes the first place our eye finds and would be better if in focus. This dof might be OK if the light was stronger on the pickup area and less on the front knob.

I agree with ACArmstrong. The angle is sweet, but you need a touch more DOF at the front end. I like the fade to black in the bottom left and top right. Nice contrast. Looks like you were in pretty close with a wide angle; maybe too close?

I like this a lot. I tried a similar b&w shot of my last new axe. It didn't work out quite as well as this. I would like to see a little more of the neck, however. The depth of field is, yes, a bit shallow, but it's fine for me. I like the contrast, too.
What brand is it? And do we get to see you playing it as well?

Redminds me of an Album cover - could be wishbone ash, hendrix, or clapton - I will have to go up the loft and get the vinyl out to check.

Good photo - I like the depth of field but have noted the others comments and agree with them, but I still think its really neat photo - what's it like in colour, could be good too.

    Hi,
I've taken your critique on board and done a reshoot. Hopefully this fixes some of the issues you guys were having!

You won't get to see pictures of me playing it, but I can tell you that it's a Cort G250. I'm learning, but it's a good enough starter's guitar. Click here for some more information and a full picture; yes mine is sunburst too.

Thank you all for your comments so far, please keep them coming!

    Cheers,

P.S. No wide angle yet, but it is literally on it's way!

    Re: Guitar

I think what you've done is actually just shifted the point of focus to the frontmost knob rather than increasing the DOF. Can you set your apertures manually? If so you're gonna need f22 for sure here. You're very close in and there's a relatively huge expanse of area to get in focus (if indeed that is what you are trying to achieve). You'll need to put it on a tripod(if you haven't already) by the looks of the lighting situation.
The in focus parts of this shot look very sharp.
The way I see it if you're going for sharp - make it all sharp. If you're going for selective focus - make sure we know that's what you're going for(eg. just the knob in focus.

    Re: Guitar

I can play the guitar. My girlfriend calls me a former musician but that is not correct. I am a presently practicing musician. I play the guitar with a trio that primarily entertains at rehabilitation centers and convalescent hospitals and if you`re interested why not check here I’ve been trying to find a way to get Quora to call me musician or guitar player but to no avail, they always put in the word former. Have any ideas on how to fix that?
