    misty redwood morning

This is the first photo I've posted in a while-- but don't be afraid to let 'er rip.
I can't decide whether I like or hate this image. It just seems too simple to me, not enough content. But part of me recalls the scene this morning when the sun began to break through the fog as I hiked in the redwoods. It was incredible.
I would love a brutally honest critique or two... what works and what doesn't?
    Thanks!

Very painterly. The one time I've shot in big redwoods, the pictures were awful. It was really dark in there.

I'm wondering if a deer on the path would have really notched it up, but as it is, I think it is a very good photo and very peaceful.

Painterly, huh? Thanks! No one has ever called my work painterly!
You know, I did hear an animal behind me at one point but the noise stopped after a few seconds... oh well. Deer don't frequent these woods. Nothing really does, to tell the truth, other than people. Its amazingly quiet. I had hoped the photo would capture that stillness, that Zen feel to being in these magnificent woods. Something, even a person maybe, huh? Just to break up the scene a little. I like the idea.
The redwoods are a metering nightmare. You either have black trees and good sky or waaay blown out sky with good trees. Or wait for a perfectly still early morning with fog. Like I did on this day. And I got lucky...
BTW, where did you visit the redwoods on your shoot? These are the Jedediah Smith Redwoods about 20 minutes from my home.
Thanks for the comments, LL, I really appreciate it.

    Re: misty redwood morning

I'll bet this seems a lot more majestic in a large print. It looks like one of those spiritual feeling places that I have so much trouble trying to capture the feeling of.
I think I would try for a less centered composition and try to have something, perhaps silouhetted, in the close forground to add to the feeling of depth. Maybe try a lower camera position as well near some ferns.
