    Which macro would you prefer?

Or, do you not like either one? What I wouldn't give for a set of studio lights for shots like these.

Personally I like the second one over the first one.

They are both well-composed, sharp, etc. but I like the second better simply because it's a true abstraction. I could be looking at berries, rocks on Mars (with water no less!) or whatever. That's just me though, I'm drawn to stufff like that where you have to sort of ponder what the shot is about and see the different interpretations. The only thing I would change is to crop out (or clone in) the bare spot at the very top right of the photo.

    Beautiful Work

Beautiful images!!! I prefer the first photo, the white edges of the bowl seem to define the limits of the image and give it some perspective. However I think it would be much stronger if the upper left portion were not so blown out. The second image if cropped a little tighter at the top would be much stronger (IMHO). The color saturation and textures in both are excellent.

I REALLY like the first...the second is nice but I like the clean white bowl to offset the blueberries...

they look like they're waiting for some cream and sugar...mmm...very nice stock image....

Yes Nat, they will be dessert tonight!! hehe

Thank you everyone for your comments. Honest critique is what I need. I think perhaps I will try a shot like this again another time but use natural lighting in the morning. As it was, I used a halogen light but the shadow cast it produced was rather too harsh for my taste.

    the first one

i agree with nat about the white bowl providing a good boundary for the blueberries. i don't really like the second one, even as an abstract. it just doesn't do it for me. it's exposed and focused well, but it just doesn't work. that's my opinion. but i do really really really like the first one. alot.

#2 works best for me, but I think that the berry to the left of the main right sided one should be more in focus. Just seems that those two berries are the dominate ones so they should be razor sharp. #1 is also nice though the angle kind of throws me off kilter a bit. Very nice color, very sharp photograph.
