    Macro waterfall

well...sort of. I took these shots last night at a little creek that runs thru town. I took some a couple of weeks ago and posted them here, but I wanted to reshoot them when it got darker out so I could use a longer shutter speed. I was almost too late last night and I had a heck of a time focusing in the dark... I'm not positive but I think all of these exposures were between 20-30 seconds at ISO100 with my DRebel. I took along my DeJUR flash from my AE-1 and set that off a few times duing some of the exposures, which is what the 2nd picture shows, a combination of blured time exposure and stop action flash. What do you think? The rest are long exposures with no flash. This fall is only about 4"-6" high. The only PS work done was autolevels to all images.

As always, any and all comments and suggestions are welcome.

Very good experiments. I like #1 the best personally, but the others are also interesting. Suggestions for improvements: maybe remove some of the extrenuous objects from the scenes, esp in nos. 1 and 4 (in 4, just crop out that bottom white rock). #3 might be a little too difficult to see what's going on (fine line here: mystery adds to the pick too).

Funny, but these might also be very very intersting if shot with a video camera (??) If not too dark, you would then get some strange movement, colors, and also the sound of the water. Worth a try?

Thanks for the comments GB. I was going to crop out that rock in #4 but just kind of forgot about it... here it is again without the rock. That light in the top of #3 is the reflection from a street light. I like the extra bit of color that it adds.

I really like the picture now that you have cropped it. It gives it an abstract quality and I like how I have no frame of reference. A very interesting subject you choose and it definitely gets some ideas going in my head.
    Keep up the great work.
    Cheers.

I like your creativity. I think your experimentation produced some interesting, unique shots. I like #1 and #4 the most. But #1 has "stuff" in the foreground that distracts. The crop of #4 helps a lot. I think that is the key to all of these shots - just being very aware of your compositions, which must be difficult in the dark!

1 and 4 don't look like water to me, but something wonderous and magical. Like flowing satin. Very nice, and stunning. Definitely like #4 with the rock cropped out better.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions, they are always appriciated. I will be sure to take a flashlight with me next time so I can see what I'm focusing on.

Very neat shots! The luxury of going to the same site again to experiment should not be taken for granted. My personal favorite is #1. Warmer colours, a bit more variety of colour as compared to #4 which would be my second pick. Having little experience at night shots, I'm wondering if a neutral density filter at dusk would help in your experimentation.

The first shot is IMHO the best in the series...the colors are beautiful and the comp and mood are just right...I'm sure it must have been brutal trying to focus in the dark.. lol...good you have the tenacity to kep trying

I vote you go back and take some more...take a flashlight and shine it on the spot you want to focus on...
