Macro...Differnt kind of subject...tell me what you think.

This is a bronze medal that I won at the Indoor Archery Nationals in Louisville, KY. Decided to play with the macro settings on my camera, and came up with this. The background is my desktop, and I just used the camera's built in flash. I like the way it came out, I may try to duplicate the background for other subjects.

The effect from the flash is kind of neat, but you'll want to be careful what you try to reproduce it with. The built in flash generally doesn't have pleasing results.

As far as the composition, it doesn't really catch my attention. Have you tried getting much closer? Maybe just a section of the medal, instead of the whole thing? If you just want to show what the medal looks like, this is great, but if you are looking for something a little more interesting, you may want to play around with it some more.

    happy shooting!

It's what I call a "documenting" shot. The background is distracting and so is the reflection of the flash light. The result of the medal and the light reflection in the middle and a straight camera angle is a boring composition. The light is flat, causing the whole picture to be flat and creating a distracting dark shadow.

Sorry, but that's the way I look at it.

Why not try something more exciting, something more dynamic, move the medal around, try different framing, angle, maybe add some dof, some light (other color?) coming from one side and a background that's more connected to "archery".
