Little Civil War Re-enactors

I got a chance to visit Bridgeport, AL during a civil war re-enactment this past weekend. I took some really nice battle shots and canon blast and so on but just before leaving, I got a chance to take a shot of some children dressed in civil war era clothing and ready to defend the home-front.

First of all, I was leaving as I took this photo so all the things I knew to do or not to do, I didn't. However, the photo of the children still remains one of my favorites. I would like to know which photo you like the best. I basically reduced saturation on the one.

BTW - I've kind of been in transition between cameras here. Breaking in a new Canon 20D which was used for this shot.

I like the second one best... the desaturation brings out the details in the middle child's face, which is in heavy shadow in the first one. I pulled it down onto my computer, converted to grey scale, and added a sepia tone to it. That may be something else you want to consider, especially given the subject matter. I didn't post it, but it looks pretty good.

I too like the second one. It has a lot more of a 'timeless' feel to it, kind of brings you back to that time. Nice shot.
