    Impression of an Old City

These photos were taken in Hangzhou, China. The first photo depicts a typical scene in the city. The second photo was taken in a temple originally built in the 3rd century. The background is a stone craving of a famous Buddism script. The people in the pic were trying to put their handprints on the carving. I am not sure whether it is a ritual for good luck. The third is a cat watching the street from his home. The last one is the Hangzhou airport. All comments are welcome.

    Hi Yoyo,

The shot that grabs me is the 2nd one. I cannot tell, but it seems a little dark. Also, are there ways to re-crop it such that the composition has more punch/

Re: Impression of an Old City

    Hi yoyo,

the first photo appears a bit dark to me but it nicely convey a message of "old city", resembling the ancient photos once taken during 17th century China. The second and the third one are more interesting to me, especially the one with a cat - a very special animal that survives both in the modern and old cities as well. Nice shots.

    Cheers,

    Alex

I like the forth picture because of the repeating lines....it appears to be tilted to one side.

    Good shots!

Hi Tim, Alex, and Chris, Thanks for the comments. Yes, the pics are a bit dark. I should have increased the lightness with PS.
    All the best.

The first I like but does not convey old city to me, but that could be me as I see as old country. It needs to be lighter as already stated

Second - I like this but as stated it needs something to give it a bit more punch such as increase saturation to bring out the colours

Third - Don't change a thing - excellent composition my one nitpic is that it could do with a bit of rotation looking at the windows and possibly a little and i mean a little more contrast to make it stand out

Last - I have imagined this as an airport and it needs a little rotation to make the horisontals level. I like the patterns and the reflection on the floor.

Re: Impression of an Old City

Yoyo, I like the second and third shots here. I don't feel anything needs to be adjusted with them.
The fourth feels like it's missing the strong symetry needed in this type shot and its abit dark in the shadows. Feels too busy for me with the reflections and all. First shot is interesting, perhaps too contrasty though. Good stuff
