High Speed

I took this today while doing a little downhilling here in town. The rider is my friend Brad, me and him rode these trails for a few hours and had a lot of fun. I like this shot a lot.

Nice pics!! What do you ride?? I actually found this site through mtbr....used to spend hours and hours there but I've kinda given up my bike as I dint have much free time to ride due to the upcoming final school exams.

I've allways dreamed of an Ellsworth Truth.....amazing bike!!Oh, and I'm more in Cross-country/free-ride myself....was anyways!!

I'll explain more of what I said about this photo...
It shows good face too, which in my book is important...
My only negative thing with photograph is that it is too tight on the front.
There should be a bit more space there.
I you have mastered the pan my young mtbing photoging friend..

Yup, its too bad I was tight on the front wheel. The first time I shot this his front wheel got chopped a little, so I made him go back up again. It was hard to center the rider because they came towards you, then suddenly whipped around this corner picking up a lot of speed as they were paralell to you. I like the face too.

Maybe you should take a step back next time..
That way it will give you a little more room.
I know it isn't too easy to do sometimes, but it will help.
You don't ride a good bike like your buddies? I thought you rode Specialized!

I did ride an enduro....until I broke it. Then all I could afford was an SGS for a FR bike. I will try shooting a little further back on some of the tight shots. This one looks so fast, I'm really liking it a lot. I also like the rock drop one on my mtbr post.

Well it's all subjective of course; my opinion isn't worth more than anyone else's (i.e. I could be wrong) but the combination of the bike's motion, slant and the rider's face, combined with the sort of swirling tree canopy background... is just very cool IMO.

Sometimes when I get a shot that I feel is too tight, I go tighter. Try cropping really close and see if you can make it work. It's hard to get perfect composition when you're panning fast action. I usually try to give myself a little extra room, as Brian suggested. It's easier to crop later than it is to put in a missing wheel. But, you can also try cropping tighter. I think that might work with this one.

of your shots is wonderful to see as I pop in from time to time... I think this one (except for the barb wire fence ( I think that was you?) is one of the best one's I've seen... I agree with PJ about a tighter crop...it might help to make the tightness around the wheel look less accidental and more intentional.... nice work

I know what you mean, sometimes if its tight, I want it way tight, where the rider IS the frame. I think this is one of my favorite shots, but I am getting more good ones everyday i go out with my camera.
