    Humming bird

I just came back from vacation and tried taking pictures of several new type of shots. This is a humming bird I caught by being in the right place at the right time, Jeff

    Pretty bird!

I realize that you may not have had a chance to reframe the shot, but to me the hummingbird is a little lost in all the surrounding foliage. I think if it was me, I would crop out the right side a bit...over to the left edge of the orange/yellow flower in the lower middle of the image. I think that helps bring out the bird a bit more as my eyes arent distracted by the bright flowers on the right.

I looked at it and changed it a bit. How about this, Jeff

    Hi grandpaw:
I like both but more the second one, great catch, they are very hard to photograph, they do not stay still for too long.

That looks much better, to me anyway.

The crop is much better. Not the best background for the dark bird but you did really well on the exposure, focus and shutter speed to get such a clear image.

    I like it.
    No, I DON'T need that.

I also like the second post better. I agree with MB about the exposure, focus and shutter speed.

    Another vote for the crop....

They are indeed difficult birds to capture, I've yet to get one in flight where the wings are visible. It's nice to see an image of a hummingbird on flowers as opposed to a feeder. Very nice work!!
Please ask before editing my photos, I'll say yes

I like to take the pictures...

    Re: Humming bird

Thanks for all your comments. It was just by accident I got the little guy. My son and grandson were getting off one of the rides in Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo. when he spotted it. I didn't have time to do anything but shoot! I feel very lucky to have gotten the shot I did, Jeff

Good colors, harsh light though. The right wing of the bird is having a hard time standing out from the background.
