    high key experimentation

Here is my third trial at using the high key technique to shoot flowers (with some totally different flowers this time).

It was shot with the glorious 17-35mm AF-S Nikkor f/2.8 lense (no, I did not ruined myself for that one, I just rent it for the week end lol).

    ....

    Seb,
I really like this one! The DOF is great. The only thing that I can see that *I* would change about it is the crop. I hate that half the petals on the one center flower is missing and then there is the dead space on the other side of the frame. But it's really personal preference more than anything, I think! ;)

You got a real winner here. Love the colors and the high key effect. The crop doesn't bother me in the least. Well composed, in the right frame this would be a nice addition to for the wall. Well done once again.

    Hi Seb,
My first impression is very bright. I like the idea of backlighting. One of the leaves shows very interesting backlighting effect. The colour of the flowers is also eye-catching. I suggest arranging the flowers to show some geometry.
    All the best.

Great effect, and good choice of a bright color for the subject. Clean, simple and contemporary. You're on to something here - but I agree about re-arranging the flowers a little differently. The one that really doesn't look right is the one at the top and center, have that face the camera like the others and you'd have a winner.

    Gather all the light
Shoot it slow and open wide
    Summer's flowers bright.

    Hello guys,

Thank you for commenting. I am glad to see that you like it.

ChaosCubed: Actually, I have sent this one (with few others) to my usual lab to have a print of it very early yesterday afternoon and I cropped slightly differently in accordance to your comment. The result do is more pleasing. Thank you for the hint!

Old Timer: It will be on my wall soon! Thank you for your imput.

Yoyo: I will eventually reedit this shot (when I will have proper light). I'll try few set up with the flowers.

Another View: Honnestly, that particular flower that you are pointing out doesnt bother me much but I see your point. I will reedit the shot soon.

Villena: f/2.8 is the key! It's a bit weird, but somehow it seems to me that this lense (the 17-35mm) does a better job at blurrying things wide open than my Tamron. It may (or may not!) have something to do with the focal lenght.

Chunk: I guess that photographers are poets in their own way. Sounds good!

Seb.. you did great on this pic. It's something I could piture on the wall of a Crate & Barrel or some very contemporary store. Very today and catches the eye in a "have to look one more time" way. Nothing about it bothers me. It's kind of refreshing not to have the flowers perfectly arranged.
