    Henrietta Heron

This Great Blue Heron has been hanging around so much my children have named her Henrietta. What do you think of the photo? How would you improve it?

Wow! That's a cool pic...oh, wait, a CRITIQUE! Suppose I should be more specific than "Cool!", huh? ) I love the color -- it jumps right out at you. And I don't want to know how many frames it took before you actually got the bird's head composed like that in the frame. It would take me plenty of tries. )

I like the picture quite a bit. my only problem is that without any of the body included i feel like his head and upper body are just kind of floating out in space. as if there's nothing anchoring it down.

just a personal taste thing, i think.

Beautiful bird, but that doesn't of course automatcially mean that it's a beautiful shot.
I think the odd crop is an attempt to correct distracting elements (correct me if I'm wrong) and that bothers me. The result doesn't work for me though if I have to be honest.
The image is too blurry, I don't like that either. I also don't consider the composition very strong.
The colors are nice, I don't think the leafs are too distracting, not every shot has to be "hyper clean".

    Thanks for sharing.

Thank you all for your comments. JoeD, I hope you'll post some of your own work -- I don't think I've seen any of your photos yet.
