    Help With Subject

I wanted to have the table\chairs as the subjects of this shot in Zurich taken with my F100 on Tmax 100. It was shot at F8 and more than likely 1\60 sec through a 28-80 Nikon zoom.

To me, I did not get enough of the table\chair to be the subject of this photo, hence, I have a shot with no subject. What do you think???

    Hello Chris,

I guess that there could have been plenty of ways to capture that scene but I personally like it the way it is. It's an elegant scene. However your photo convey a feeling of loneliness rather than a terrace feel which may or may not be what you was going for.

Feel free to disagree but I think that I would have either used a shallower DOF to slightly blur the background and make less obvious what appears to be a tree (at the extreme right) or slightly crop the right side (and the bottom to keep the ratio) to get rid of the tree.

A progressive blur of the background would most likely give more impact to the tables and chairs but still, I believe that this is an enjoyable scene the way it is.

    regards

    Seb

I think the way the shot stands the subject is the whole street/shops, which is interesting to me. I like the exposure you used. The tone of the table/chairs is close to everything else in the scene and blends in too well.

Was there any color in the chairs or table that could have allowed them to be rendered lighter by the use of colored filters?

A tighter horizontal framing of the scene makes the table/chairs the subject I think, but you lose some of the 'flavor' of the neighborhood.

Thanks guys, I had the same thoughts you two did, it is sad, there may be too much distraction in the background and the chairs blend in. Actually the chairs were bright colors but the shade was so great it made exposure hard.

    THANKS again
