    Head of the Rock Regatta

This is a shot I posted in Viewfinder, but I'd like a critique on it. I shot it with a 20mm lens on a DSLR (30mm equivalent) and set the camera on the ground aimed up a little. It was too busy here to lay down on the sidewalk so I guessed on the composition and took several frames.

I like the angle of it, the craziness of it and some of the repeating patterns in it. Comments appreciated.

When I opened the photo, I first saw the top half. Scrolling down and seeing the whole photo, I became less interested.

I think you were definitely onto something. I really like the colors and all the angles of the equipment. The leg of the guy just bothers me for some reason. I think a higher vantage point in which you could keep the guys torso, and all the equipment. in the pic (but not his legs) might have worked better. I'm not sure

    Just some thoughts,

    Hello AnotherView,

I feel ambivalent about your composition. I love the way the person is cut at the left of the frame but the position of this guy and is kayak act as a natural frame that draw my eyes straight in the background where the random positioning of the various people isn't really interesting (as far as I am concerned).

I'd say that you had a clever idea but I don't think that it works to it's full potential.

    definitely different.
    Thats a plus!

I'm not sure exactly what I think, the only thing i can post now, is that it has kept my interest...both in the guys whole left side ( nice Calves) and the girl behind him making a face and waving her fist...

will have to think about it

I like and find interesting the unusual angle shot here. but after that wears off I'm wishing there was something of deeper interest or stronger going on in the bg, as Seb stated. A good idea, but needs a little something more. . . . .. . . . . as I continue looking. . .I'm feeling that the poles behind the persons leg is making a busier than should be scene and also appears like four darts sticking out of the leg. I feel that cloning them out would help the scene.

Thanks for the comments. The "darts" are the oars so they fit in with the subject and I liked the two groups of them. But I agree that there isn't enough going on in the background to make it interesting.

Anyway, I see a stronger shot cropping the bottom out so only the top 60% is showing but then it becomes an odd size which I'm not really a fan of.

I know that they are oars, only reffered to them as darts because they look somewhat odd the way they are coming out from behind the leg. I didn't mean anything by the term.
