I like these better than the first oneposted as they are much sharper.
The first is ok.
The second is very good.
The third would be very good if it had more space above the butterfly and less at bottom.
You have good sharp focus on the subject with a nicely blurred bg.
Btw.....be happy for the butterflys as we don't see many around here.
These are much better than the first post. I always enjoy your photos.

Thanks very much for weighing in on the series. These are what I was after with the shots in the first place. The shot from the first post I was not sure of; needed some feedback. The flower is in focus but the b-fly was just taking off.
Two and three are awesome CF. Sharp focus and perfect color. I miss the eyes in the first shot and just feel the butterfly is facing the wrong way, but with that said hats off, I couldn't do it. What lens do you use?

High praise coming from both of you. Thanks very much. I am shooting the 40D with the 28-135mm that came with it. I really like this lens. Auto Focus, Image Stabilization, very nice focal length for urban use. I have the 18-55/28-300 in the bag but keep this on otherwise.
All I can say is, VERY NICE   Jeff

CF - I didn't see the rest of the series but this is very good work here. I think the butterfly is too close to the edge on the bottom one, but otherwise they're all very good. I would also like more DOF on all of them, but I know how hard it is to balance the speed, aperture, and ISO speed to achieve that good balance point.

Thanks very much for adding your comments. I really appreciate it.
GB: by saying more DOF as you saying you would like the background to be more in focus; more definition? I will have to give that a try as I have always thought the more defined the background the more distracting that might be. Absolutely worth a look-see, however.
Thanks again.
CF - Not the background but the far and near petals on the flower seem to be out of focus. I know upping the DOF will back the background more defined and that it should be soft, but the petals, front to back, should be sharp IMO.
One other thing to watch for is how background objects such as stems, branches etc lay out. I see some of them intruding into the space behind the butterfly in the first two. Even if out of focus they still tend to distract a bit..

I get it. Thanks very much for those pointers. You are exactly correct and really appreciate that fine tuning. I am sure if these shots had all the pedals of the flowers in sharp focus it would make for a much stronger shot. I will certainly keep that in mind. Really appreciate it.
