    Funky Little Guy

This is full frame from my D70 with a Tamron 90mm macro lens and a 1.4x teleconverter. I monkeyed with the contrast and levels some and it looks a little funky (almost little Holga-ized) to me, but I think I might like it. How about you? Any suggestions?

Eek! Wasn't expecting to a spider when I clicked on this. A very sharp image, and the web is very cool, but I have to ask where you came upon a spider like this? Hopefully not in a backyard...

Patterns patterns everywhere!! I think you did a nice job with this image. I love all the patterns in it! The stipes on the legs, the zig zag of the web, the squares of the screan(?) behind the web, the shapes on the spiders back... With all these patterns, I would think that the spider would get lost in there, but it doesn't, and I like it. Nice shot!

Thank you. Yes, a backyard. That's where I find most of my animal subjects.

Lava Lamp! Where in the US did you find this unusual fellow. Nice shot by the way.

This is probably the best spider shot I have ever seen. Absolutely splendid.
The patterns really do work together. and really show up the criter.
One minor critique is that the leg on the right is a little close to the edge of the picture compared to all the other legs. Told you it was minor.

Now where in the US do I avoid so that I don't walk into one of these chaps?
What is the thick white stuff?
What type of spider, how long and is it poisnous?

    Happy hunting!!

These Black and Yellow Garden Spiders (Argiope Aurantia) are found in US and in Europe, but are more plentiful in warmer areas. I think this one is a young male. His body was about 1/2" long, but they grow to 3". The zig zag web pattern is characteristic of this kind of spider. (I looked all that up after I took his picture.)

Oh, yeah. I was reading that EVERY spider is venomous, but almost all of them only have enough venom to disable their (small) prey. There are only four species in the US that can cause significant harm to people.
